Wichita State basketball’s 2019-20 schedule is finalized: here are dates and times

Koch Arena will host a New Year’s Day party to bring in 2020 and the American Athletic Conference season.

The AAC released the full dates and times of its upcoming men’s basketball conference slate and the Shockers open AAC play on Wednesday, January 1 with a 3 p.m. home game against East Carolina.

WSU will be playing in primetime on either ESPN or ESPN2 at least seven times, while all of its conference games will be broadcast on ESPN networks or CBS Sports Network. WSU has three 6 p.m. Thursday games at Koch Arena scheduled for ESPN or ESPN2: Memphis (January 9), Cincinnati (February 6) and Temple (February 27).

Similar to last season’s AAC schedule, which was clearly front-loaded (WSU started 1-6 before winning 9 of 11), the Shockers appear to have a tougher slate in the first half of conference play.

The first eight days of the new year will have some of the season’s biggest games at Koch Arena: After ECU on January 1, WSU hosts Ole Miss in an AAC-SEC showdown game on Saturday, January 4 before preparing for a highly anticipated showdown against Penny Hardaway and Memphis on Thursday, January 8.

After that, the Shockers have four of their next six games on the road to cap the schedule’s most challenging stretch. WSU has a road swing at Connecticut and Temple before alternating playing at home (Houston and Central Florida) and on the road (at South Florida, Tulsa) the next four games.

The key road dates include at Houston (February 9), at Cincinnati (February 23) and at Memphis (March 5).

Friday’s conference schedule release finalized the 2019-20 schedule for the Shockers, which had previously released its nonconference slate that featured standout games against South Carolina and either Northern Iowa or West Virginia in Cancun, at Oklahoma State and at home against Oklahoma, VCU and Ole Miss.
